The Future of Autonomous Ships

An interview with Rylan Hamilton, CEO of Blue Water Autonomy

"Once you produce something that is tactile as part of your business, it's really hard to go into any other business where you don't produce something."

In this episode, I discuss autonomous ships and their role in the current geopolitical environment with entrepreneur and U.S. Navy veteran Rylan Hamilton.

Rylan Hamilton began his career as a U.S. Navy engineering and surface warfare officer before earning his MBA at Harvard Business School and transitioning into robotics. As an early leader at Amazon Robotics, he helped scale the global deployment of industrial automation across Amazon’s fulfillment network. He later co-founded 6 River Systems, a pioneering warehouse robotics company that introduced one of the first collaborative, autonomous mobile robots for logistics which was ultimately acquired by Shopify.

Today, Rylan is the co-founder and CEO of Blue Water Autonomy, a Boston-based company designing and building autonomous ships for the U.S. Navy and commercial customers.
